He then became proprietor of Paulison Liquors in Clifton and was once named President of the North Jersey Package Stores Association. With a business partner, he purchased the Rustic Lodge banquet hall in Elmwood Park. He later became sole owner and ran the establishment until his retirement.

Al was an avid poker player and enjoyed spending time at the beach. He was kind, generous and warm but also a tough negotiator and an astute businessman with a knack for getting the most out of any situation.
