Alonzo George Hopkins, 82, passed to the Lord Friday, February 22 ^nd , 2019 from the loving arms of his wife, Carol Anne Hopkins. Lonnie's journey began in Dallas County, October 14 ^th , 1936 when his arrival blessed his parents, Jack Hopkins and Ruth Marie Whitley.

He grew up in the Patrick community of Ellis County. Graduated Wilmer Hutchins High School and was the first in the family to attend college at Arlington College and continued to SMU.

Admired and respected in his field, Lonnie was a structural engineer owning his own business for over 60 years designing the steel in many of the skyscrapers in Downtown Dallas. His designs are seen today in the Port Saint Lucie area and his contributions to the architecture of the community continued until 2019.

He was a Dallas Sheriff Posse volunteer since 1963, and Trooper Emeritus.

Lonnie served two terms as Mayor of Seagoville, was on the City Council for many years, and was also on the Economic Development committee. He was a resident of Seagoville (SE of Dallas) for 38 years.

As a lifetime member of the National Rifle Assoc, he achieved champion shooter and gunsmith with a rifle, shotgun, and pistol. His shooting trophies and awards are too numerous to list. One of Lonnie's biggest pleasures came from teaching others to shoot.

Beloved "Tall Texan" to his friends in Port Saint Lucie for the last 15 years, Lonnie was the Chairperson of the Architectural Review Committee for the Lake Forest Community, a Block Captain for the Emergency Readiness Committee, and a friend to all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, June H. Couch and is survived by his three brothers; Stanley M Hopkins, Kenneth Victor Hopkins, and Jack Hopkins Jr.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his honored son, Retired Master Sergeant Mark Hopkins. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol Hopkins, daughters, Karla June Hopkins, Sharon Ann Tessem and daughter-in-law Jodi Hopkins, son David Brown, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many extended family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the Lake Forest Recreational Bldg., 249 SW Lake Forest Way, Port Saint Lucie FL 34986.
