Amelia Ann (Amy) McKenna of Vero Beach, Florida passed away at her home on Friday February 3,2017.
Born on June 17,1937 in Milwaukee, Wisconsinshe was the daughter of the late Axel and Anna Thogersen

Growing up in Wisconsin Amy shared many joys with her family and friends, but as a young adult she decided to trade snowfall for sunshine and moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida deciding thisafter visits with her Uncle Claude Albright and his family. She would later move to Fort Pierce, Florida and then finally to Vero Beach, Florida.

It was while she was first living in Ft.Lauderdale that she met and married the love of her life Vince McKenna. He was a dynamic Irishman who adored her, and they created a beautiful life and family in 49 years of marriage. Both devout in their faith, they were contributing members to the Ft. Lauderdale church parish of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church. They raised three children. Amy took pride in her family. They came first and foremost , and to her family extended to all those close or dear to her. When Vince retired in the early 1980's they moved to the treasure coast area and settled in Fort Pierce. Loving the quiet and laid back community they found a new home in the church parish of St Anastasia Catholic Church.
She valued being a homemaker, volunteering at her church and had a strong work ethic. Being a woman of compassion, she felt a calling to work is the home health care field and first worked with the Council of Aging of Indian River County, and then Douglas Home Health Agency. She was passionate about football, and enjoyed the game with the best of them often saying, " Don't mess around with my Miami Dolphins or Green Bay Packers." She never forgot her Wisconsin roots, her Danish heritage or her adopted Irish roots.
Reading was her favorite pastime and she could always be found with a book in hand or tucked in her pocket book. In giving to her faith community of St. Anastasia, Amy become a vital member of the Bereavement Ministry and always felt privileged to assist families with the needs of their loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her parents Axel and Anna Thogersen.Her beloved husband JosephVincent McKenna and brother Axel Thogersen. Amy is survived by her sibling sisters Pat Reuter (John-deceased), and Nancy Thogersen, as well as, brothers Robert "Bob" Thogersen and Claude(Jan) Thogersen. Soul sister and best friend of 65 years, Judith Thogersen. Children Joseph Vincent McKenna, Catherine (Steve) Rexroad and Patricia (Naweed ) Akram. Several grand children including Katelynn McKenna, Jeff (Danielle) Muth, Robert Muth, Heather Akram, Sarah Akram, Rachel Akram, Miriam Akram and Great Granddaughter McKenna Kingsley. Special family members include Tracy and Tyler Tompkins and Mark and Josh Rice ,as well as, numerous cousins, nieces ,nephews and friends.

Amelia's (Amy) life will be celebrated with visitation on Tuesday February 7th at Cox-Gifford in Vero Beach 5-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday February 8th at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Ft. Pierce at 10 am. In lieu of flowers Amy and the family request that contributions be made in her honor to St. Anastasia Catholic Church.
