On Monday, September 3, 2018, Ann L. Joel, loving grandmother and mother of two, passed away peacefully at the age of 87, after a long battle with dementia. She has been a resident of South Florida for the past 20 years.

Daughter of the late Leonard and Evelyn Lufburrow, she was born in Freehold, New Jersey on January 20, 1931. After graduating with a business administration degree, she held several bank positions, before leaving to raise her family. Once her family was raised,  she returned to working outside the home in what was to be her favorite job at Holmdel Nursing Home in NJ. There she served as office manager, and enjoyed visiting with residents and their families, the true highpoint of her day, until her retirement in 1998.

Ann was a doting mother, a generous grandmother, a compassionate daughter, a kind sister, and a loyal friend. She is most remembered for her dry sense of humor and wit, her infectious smile, her love of Frank Sinatra music, and her kind and benevolent heart. Ann enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends at the beach, where she was happiest, and that love of salt air and sand is no more evident than in her children, who live and vacation at beaches around the world.

Survivors include son, Jeff Joel of Hobe Sound, Florida; daughter, Valerie Dickinson and her husband Dan, of Westfield, Indiana; two sisters, Janet Royer of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Adele LaVerne of Albuquerque, New Mexico; granddaughter, Danielle Dickinson Koerner and husband Peter, of Columbia, South Carolina, and nieces and nephews, who have many stories to tell about their favorite Aunt Ann.

Services and Interment will be private at the wishes of the family.
