Obituary

Ann M. Parker, age 89, of Hobe Sound, FL passed away in her sleep on Friday, January 22 nd at The Sheridan Assisted Living Facility where she was loved and cared for by the wonderful staff and residents of the community.

Born in Boston, MA on August 16 th , 1931, Ann and her late husband Ed had lived in Hobe Sound for the past 28 years. Both were members of the Hobe Sound United Methodist Church until their declining health limited their personal participation.

Ann is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 70 years (Edward), her beloved son (Steven), and her brother Bob Smith of Brockton, MA. She is survived by her sons Bruce (Sandy) Parker of Naples, FL, Jim (Judy) Parker of Dewittville, NY, daughter-in-law, Shari Parker of Wilmington, MA, and stepsister Lily Todd of Quincy, MA. Ann was also the loving and devoted grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren who will remember Grammy for her generosity, personality and her many cross-country visits when she was able to travel, which she loved to do!

Ann was a faithful wife, devoted mother to three energetic sons, and a loving grandmother. Many in Jamaica Plain and Braintree, MA, as well as Hobe Sound, FL regarded her as a special friend who enjoyed her social relationships and community involvement with these dear people. Over the span of her life she also cherished "all things" Boston, which included a day at the beach, New England fried seafood, candlepin bowling, and Red Sox baseball; and she would often return to the northeast during the summer to reminisce with family and friends about the memories they shared together. Other activities that would often occupy her time included Bingo, baking for special occasions, the bagpipes and Scottish Festivals, card games with friends and family, Shuffleboard (in Florida) and in her later years, Game Shows … where Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy were daily favorites.

Many of the comments made on Facebook remember Ann for her distinct laughter, a strong Bostonian accent, and a very competitive lady who did not like to lose or be outdone in anything. As the Matriarch of the family, Ann was often credited with orchestrating and organizing family functions that included the Annual Smith Family Reunion, Birthday and Anniversary parties, and other special occasions that needed some leadership to make happen! Ann will be greatly missed by all who loved her and enjoyed her companionship.

Treasure Coast Sea Winds Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.  A memorial service will be held at a later date, post Covid-19.  Charitable contributions may be made in her memory to Hobe Sound United Methodist Church, 10100 SE Federal Hwy, Hobe Sound, FL 33455, or the MA Order of Eastern Star, Braintree Chapter #167, 403 Rear Washington St., Braintree, MA 02184.
