IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anson J.
Buttles, M.D.
January 4, 1939 – August 28, 2021
On Saturday, August 28, 2021, Anson J. Buttles, MD passed peacefully at the age of 82.
Jim was born on January 4, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Anson and Jean Buttles. He received his medical degree in 1969 from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Internal Medicine with a specialty in Allergy. He began practicing medicine in Milwaukee, but decided to move to Stuart, Florida in 1974 where it was much warmer. His medical career spanned more than 50 years. He married Shirle Ann Shrieber on July 6, 1963 and they had two daughters, Jeanie and Betsy and one son, Joel.
Dr. Buttles, as he was affectionally called, had a passion for his work. He loved being a doctor and he loved caring for his patients. He never wanted to retire. Practicing medicine was his life's work and it was where he found his purpose. His career included his work in private practice from 1969-1987 where he specialized in allergy, the Internist for Savanna's Hospital from 1988-2004, a physician for Parkway Health and Rehabilitative and the Manors in Hobe Sound from 2004 to 2021, and a physician for Treasure Coast Hospice from 2007 to 2021. Jim also served as Chief of Staff for Martin Memorial and was a member of the Hospital Board.
Jim also had a passion for the Lord. He told everybody he met about Jesus. He has read his Bible from beginning to end more times than we could count. He taught Sunday school for years and was the founding lay person of Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church where he also served as president for 5 years.
Jim was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
He was preceded in death by his father, Anson and his mother, Jean, his brother, Tom, his step- grandson, Jack Holzmacher, and his wife of 55 years, Shirle.
He is survived by his three children, Jeanie (George) Holzmacher, Elizabeth (Betsy) Buttles, and Joel Buttles; three granddaughters, Kayla (Danny) Flores De Valgaz, Taylor Townsend, and Emma (Sam) Oliver; two step grandsons, Austin and Nathan Holzmacher; two great grandsons, Elijah and Isaac Flores De Valgaz; his sisters-in-law, Leslie Buttles and Jean (Wendell) Markiewicz; his nephews Jon (Lindsey) Buttles, Mark (Heidi) Buttles, Joe (Betty) Markiewicz, DC, and John (Pam) Markiewicz. His cousin, Ginny (Wayne) Ross; along with great nieces and nephews.
