Anthony Angelo Alli, age 93 of Stuart, FL, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016.

He was born in Robertsdale, PA to Italian immigrants Frances Turco and Anthony Alli. Due to a coal mining accident that paralyzed his father, the family moved to Buffalo, NY in search of better medical care. He met his future wife, Clara Teresi, at the age of 18. Shortly thereafter he enlisted in the Army and served his country during WWII while stationed in the Pacific. During a short furlough, he and Clara married in Buffalo at the age of 20 on March 9, 1944. He was proud to be a witness to the end of the war and the signing of the Japanese surrender to General Douglas MacArthur. After he returned home, he and Clara moved to Tonawanda, NY and raised their family of 5 children.

Tony worked for the Salerno Biscuit Company his entire career from his early teens until retirement at age 62. He started out as a warehouse stock boy and over the years determinedly worked his way up to District Sales Manager.

Tony was a jack of all trades. He loved woodworking and could fix anything in need of repair. In his retirement years, he made furniture, garden & home accessories, and many more mementos his family will cherish.

Together, he and Clara were avid travelers and enjoyed spending their retirement years visiting places such as the Far East and Europe, as well as motoring across the United States. Their children had moved to all corners of the country and they made sure to visit each of their families regularly. They loved to entertain their children and grandchildren for holidays and special occasions. Their house was full of the smells of their favorite Italian specialties and the music of their generation. It was a place of laughter and love.

In 2002, Clara persuaded Tony to leave their home of 50 years and make the move to Port St. Lucie to be closer to family. In their twilight years, they were inseparable and you could often find them watching movies together or holding hands on their back porch. In 2012 they made one more move together to Ocean Palms retirement community in Stuart.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Clara, and his devoted children: Karen (Robert) Hogan of Palm City, FL; David (Rita) Alli of Seattle, WA; Susanne Frances of Palm City, FL; and Francine (Paul) Lata of Castle Rock, CO. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his 4 siblings.

Anthony will be interred at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL at a date to be determined. As a member of the Greatest Generation, donations in his memory can be made to Southeast Florida Honor Flight, Inc. - PO Box 1503, Stuart, FL 34995.
