Arthur C. Gockeler, of Jensen Beach, Florida, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, Florida.
He was born in Newark, New Jersey, the son of Arthur and Florence Gockeler on July 9, 1931.
Art was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on February 14, 1952. Upon leaving the military, he began his career as a police officer in the Newark Police Department. At the age of 47, after 25 yearsof distinguished service on the force, he retired, with the rank of Sargent and a member of the Narcotic Squad.
He quickly left the snow and cold weather of the north, for sunshine and warmth of Jensen Beach, Florida. His passion for baseball, bowling, golf and fishing, kept him very active,in all his years in retirement. He was a member of both Senior Softball Leagues in Port St. Lucie and Jensen Beach.
After 15 years of retirement, not having enough to keep himself busy, Art purchased a process serving company, Investigative Consultants of the Treasure
Coast, Inc. which he successfully operated until the time of his passing.
Art was preceded in death by his former wives, Barbara, and Ann Maureen.
He is survived by three children; Dawn Reilly, Susan Gockeler and Arthur Gockeler, all who currently reside in Bloomfield New Jersey.
He also leaves, his sister, Florence Delany, 75, in Toms River, New Jersey and brother, John Gockeler, 72, in
Easton, Pennsylvania.
At his expressed wishes, he will be cremated by Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, and there will be no Memorial Services.
