Obituary

Austin Leroy Barrows died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 after a long illness surrounded by his loving family as his soul continued its journey to heaven.

He was born in Ferrisburg, Vermont on February 6th, 1933. He was predeceased by his parents, William Barrows and Laura Gibson, two sisters, Madeline Jeter and Sally Ann Barrows and many good friends. He was an Army Retiree and Vietnam Veteran, receiving the Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medals among other lesser awards.

He is survived by his soul mate of 57 years, Jane of Indiantown, and sons, David Leroy (Kathleen) of Bakersville, North Carolina and Mark Alan (Deborah) of Burlington, New Jersey. Grandchildren, Maggie Lyn Graves, Katie Ann Wick, William Austin Barrows, all of Canada and Rebecca Lee Barrows of Burlington New Jersey, great grandchild, Luke Graves of Canada, sister in law, Christina Szeluga, close friend, Terry O'Brien and many other good friends and family members here and in Vermont.

He will be missed by many and his smile will be missed by all who knew him.

He was a graduate of Hammondsport High School, Salem Community College, and Trenton State College in New Jersey. After his retirement from the Military, he worked for Hill Refrigeration in Trenton and taught Heating Ventilation and Refrigeration at Burlington County Vocation School in Medford, New Jersey where he was proud to be their wrestling coach. He retired from there in 1995 and moved to Florida, where he was an avid golfer ever since.

He is an active member of the Stuart Sunshine Chapter of Deborah Hospital Foundation, National Rifle Association, Bordentown Elks 2085 and American Legion of Vergennes, Vermont.

A Celebration of His Life/Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 25, 2014 at 10:30 am in the Chapel of Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, 950 SE Monterey Road, Stuart, Florida 34994. Interment with Military Honors and Presentation of the Flag will follow at 1:30 pm that afternoon at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 South State Road, Lake Worth, Florida 33449 (1-561-649-6489). Those attending the graveside Service are kindly asked to use Lane #5 when arriving at the Cemetery.
