Bailey Magruder, 88, of Jensen Beach, Florida, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Cleveland Clinic's Martin Memorial North Hospital in Stuart, Florida.
Born in Bradenton, Florida, he had been a resident of Jensen Beach for five years, having also lived for many years in the Chicago area, the Florida Keys and aboard his beloved "Red Dragon", a 39-foot trimaran sailboat which he built over a six-year period.
Prior to retiring, he taught economics at Thornton Community College (now South Suburban College) in South Holland, Illinois.
Educated at Murray State University in Kentucky and Northern Illinois University, Bailey also received a Masters Degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife Jane, his son John and daughter-in-law Jacki and their children Samantha and Bailey; his daughter Susan Murphy and her children Mitch, Mike and Michelle Nagy and Michelle's husband Jake and their child IslaBelle – Bailey's only great-granddaughter.
An avid fisherman, craftsman and lover of life, Bailey will be missed by many.
For those who wish, contributions may be made to one of his two favorite charities: Wounded Warriors or Shriners' Hospital for Children.
A celebration of Bailey's life will take place on what would have been his 89 th birthday: Wednesday, October 20. Please contact his wife Jane at jdolphino504@gmail.com for details.
