Barbara Olga O'Brien (Smith) passed on December 26th at Harbor Chase Memory Care in Stuart, Florida. Barbara was born in Rockville Center, New York, on March 9, 1931. She had one sibling, Nancy (Carney). She married Philip Smith at the tender age of 19 and had 4 children, Nancy (Bennett), Thomas, Betsy (Flinn), and John. They raised their children in Dix Hills, New York.
Once the nest was empty and Phil was ready to retire, they settled in beloved Southold, NY and finally realized their dream to live on the water. Their home was enjoyed by their growing brood of grandchildren including Thomas Lianza, Michael Lianza, Kelly Flinn (Piccinnini), Brian Flinn, Emily Smith, Kyle Smith, Hannah Smith and Tyler Smith.
Phil and Barbara headed south in the 1980's and found a new beloved community on Nettles Island, Jensen Beach. Here they made many friends and enjoyed all the area had to offer. Again they were followed by their children and grandchildren, all who enjoyed Hutchinson Island and the warm weather.
Phil and Barbara were the happiest of couples and spent 67 blissful years together. Phil passed in 2018 at 94 years, followed by their son Thomas a year later. There will be no services at this time, with a graveside service planned in Southold, New York at a later date.
