The Family would like to share with Betty's friends what was written on the website of Offshore Radiance, a local couple who turns the beautiful sea glass that Betty loved, into lovely jewelry (www.seaglassoffshoreradiance.com). Below is not an obituary, but a true tribute written by her friends, Dale and Katrina Meer.

Through our lifetime, we will meet many individuals who inspire us, teach us, support us, and leave an impression on us. These individuals teach us things that alter and impact our lives, and whether we realize it or not, change our lives as we know it forever. These individuals teach us some of life's most valuable lessons. If we watch and listen, we can learn a tremendous amount.

These special individuals that touch our lives may be in our lives for a short period of time or stay a while, but either way, can teach us valuable lessons about perseverance, hard work, and determination. We recently have met one of those individuals on our journey of life. We would like to tell you a little about her so you have some insight on this very special person we were honored to meet. Betty lives on Hutchinson Island in Jensen Beach, Fl. She is 90 years old, and was married for 64 years. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 22, 1922. She started working at the age of 12 serving tables. She has two children and married the love of her life, Bruce when she was just 17 years of age. She had a friend who lived in Florida and eventually found a place where her husband and herself would call home and retire spending their days, rather then the horrible winters they were accustomed to. She would walk the beach seven miles a day, almost every day for over 35 years. While she enjoyed the walks for the beauty, the fresh air, and staying healthy, she found a passion in collecting sea glass. Her husband Bruce never collected because his passion was fishing, but he walked with her many days. As her passion grew for sea glass, so did her collection. Unfortunately she lost Bruce to Alzheimer's Disease nine years ago, but her passion continued to thrive and grow. She read many books on sea glass and continued to collect until a few years ago when walking for long periods and bending over was not as easy for her anymore. Betty has given us many special pieces from her collection and we believe that it is more then just special and beautiful pieces. It is because of her hard work, perseverance, and determination of one woman who spent many years bending over and picking up each and every piece of glass that we have the wonderful pieces of art today. Each piece meant something to her and we believe that her positive energy touched each and every piece of sea glass that she has blessed us with. We are honored to have met Betty and are thankful that our lives are forever changed. Thank you Betty, for the honor of allowing us to get to know you, and spend time with you.
