C.D. Harrington, Jr ("Buzz") of Palm City, Florida and Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 5, 2018 after a brief illness, at home in Florida.  He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen A. Harrington, and children Neil (Christine), Peter (Sara), Beth (Jonathan), and David (Alicia).

Born in Palmer, Massachusetts on July 15, 1927 to Cornelius and Rose (Connelly) Harrington, raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, Buzz was predeceased by his parents, and siblings Eleanor Cox, Ann Tierney Kulisa and David L. Harrington.

Buzz graduated from Cathedral High School in 1945 and enlisted in the United States Navy, from which he was honorably discharged in 1946.  He was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts where he received his B.A in 1950 and was a four year varsity letterman of the football team. He began his banking career with Third National Bank in 1955, eventually becoming President and CEO of its successor bank, Bank of New England-West.

He served on a wide variety of boards including Monarch Capital Corporation, Baystate Medical Center, the YMCA, Wilbraham & Monson Academy and many others.

An avid and accomplished golfer, he was a longtime member of Longmeadow Country Club in Longmeadow, MA, Eastward Ho! Country Club in Chatham MA, and Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club in Palm City, Florida and a member of Baystate Seniors Golf Association.

In addition to his wife and children and their spouses, he leaves 9 grandchildren: Molly, Becky, Tommy, Annie, Katharine, David, Conor, Abby and Emily.

Buzz had a lifetime passion for horses with a special affinity for the Morgan horse. He and Helen knew every horse farm and back road in New England, and all of the Revolutionary War and Civil War battlefields.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1454 SW Mapp Road, Palm City.  A separate service and interment  will be held in July in Chatham, Massachusetts.
