IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Calvin Hilburn
Wiggins
September 6, 1943 – July 23, 2022
Calvin Hilburn Wiggins, 78, of Stuart, Florida
In more than 35 years as a Martin County Sheriff's deputy, Calvin Wiggins served three sheriffs on road patrol, as a K9 handler and as the smiling face of the agency at the front desk. He heard it all, saw it all and loved to swap stories when he got together with friends and fellow deputies after his retirement in 2003.
He died July 23, 2022, in Stuart following a long illness. He was 78.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kathy; sons Horace C. (Linda) Wiggins and Calvin L. Wiggins; daughters Sylvia Scott, Kim (Leo) DiOrio and Lisa (Robert) Pryor; sister Barbara (Paul) Vandergriff; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Horace and Grady, and sisters Virgilene and Velma.
Calvin was born in Palm Beach County and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After his military service, he signed on with the Martin County Sheriff's Office and served under Sheriffs Roy Baker, James Holt and Robert Crowder through manhunts and hurricanes and the daily challenge of protecting his community.
After retirement, he and Kathy enjoyed RV life for a time and moved to Tennessee where they were members of Robertson Creek Baptist Church in Bulls Gap. They returned to Stuart full time in 2016.
A memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
