Carolle Jackson Sands, 72, died at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, Florida on May 26th surrounded by her family.
Carolle's great grandparents, Benjamin and Sally Parks, settled in Stuart in 1891. Her late mother, Fannie S. Jackson, was the senior English teacher at Martin County High School for many years.
She was married to Richard W. Sands for 55 years. For decades he was the owner and operator of Sands Construction Company, which specializes in building homes on Jupiter Island.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Shannon Sanchez of Gainesville, Florida, and Blair Hansen of Los Angeles, California; and by her grandchildren Olivia Sanchez, a sophomore at the University of Virginia, Ben Sanchez, a sophomore at the University of Florida and by Jake Hansen, in 7th grade at High Point Academy in Los Angeles. She is also survived by her sister, Judith J. Weber of Stuart, a nephew, Thomas A. Weber of Hollywood, Florida. and by a niece, Jill W. Massey of Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Carolle was active in local school board election campaigns and along with her husband helped support a number of local charities. She was also a serious inshore and offshore angler who spent many happy days on the water in Stuart and the Florida Keys. She especially enjoyed yellowtail fishing in Key West.
She was a gracious host, an accomplished cook, an adventurous foodie, an insatiable reader, a selfless and generous friend, a loving mother and grandmother, and a caring and committed partner. Carolle's greatest joy was giving books to the children in her life, taking uncommon care to perfectly match child and book.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6th at 11:00 am, preceded by a visitation at 10:30 am at Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, 950 SE Monterey Road, Stuart.
In lieu of flowers, contributions as a memorial may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
