Charles E. Emmert, III, 77 years old, of Hobe Sound, Florida, died suddenly at home on Monday, May 15, 2017. He was born in Newark, NJ to Elizabeth Becker and Charles E. Emmert, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Emmert; his son, Charles E. Emmert IV and his wife, Sasha and granddaughter, Nicole Linda, of Cumming, Georgia; his daughter, Tanya Emmert Masiello and husband James and granddaughters Mackenzie and Gabriella of South Riding, Virginia. He is also survived by his in-laws, Bruce and Amy Testa of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Susan Miller of Port Saint Lucie, FL.
As a graduate of George Washington University, Chuck began his career in Satellite Engineering in the 1960s and is recognized as an industry leader and a pioneer in Satellite Networking. He held senior engineering and management positions at Satellite Systems Engineering, Loral Aerospace, Satellite Business Systems, and American Satellite Company. He founded a consulting company, Telecom Applications, which advised more than 100 companies that installed private VSAT communications networks. He also worked with W.L. Pritchard and TelAstra, Inc. in studies of new satellite applications including: Odyssey satellite telephone service, Satellite Radio Broadcasting, broadband services by satellite, Internet access for airline and cruise ship passengers, and machine to machine communications (the Internet of Things).
He and Linda resided in Great Falls, Virginia for 24 years, where he was an avid golfer at Riverbend Golf & Country Club. They retired to Palm City, Florida, where he continued to golf at Monarch Country Club.
His real love was sailing, which he did on the Double Eagle, his 42 foot Albin Nimbus sailboat, designed by Mike Kaufman of Annapolis, MD. His Camelot years were spent in the Chesapeake Bay, Saint Martin and Saint Bart. Chuck loved good food and socializing with friends and relatives. He also loved his cars. Old cars, new cars, fast cars and topless cars.
