Obituary

Ciro Aldo Arnone, known to most as Aldo, was born in Palermo, Italy, on February 10, 1931, to Sicilian parents, Maria De Lisi and Benedetto Arnone, a Marshal of the Italian Army. Aldo grew up in Sicily with his brother, Salvatore, and sister, Miranda, being raised mainly by his parents, and when his father traveled for service, by his maternal aunts, Ninfa, and Franca. At the age of 14, he lost his father as a prisoner of war. After completing college, he studied jurisprudence at Palermo University and bravely emigrated to the United States as a "war orphan" in his pursuit of a better life. He became a U.S. Citizen on March 6, 1962, and later sponsored his brother's U.S. citizenship which led to his brother, Salvatore, becoming a Certified Public Accountant. In 1964, Aldo was introduced to Nella Amoroso (Nellie), and they soon wed on Flag Day, June 14, 1964. On their honeymoon, Aldo and Nellie purchased land in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. One year later, they welcomed their first child, Maria Paula, who later became a physician. Additionally, Aldo and Nellie had a daughter, Roberta, and son, Robert, whom they raised in Elmont, New York. Their home was close to Nellie's four siblings (Mary, Pauline, Tony, and Manny), Aldo's cousin, Ciro, and his job for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, where he worked for over 30 years. Aldo took various civil service exams to promote himself from MTA Bus Mechanic to Driver to Dispatcher, and ultimately Superintendent. Upon retirement, Aldo and Nellie moved into a custom-built home on their land in Port St. Lucie, Florida, where Aldo joined the shuffleboard team which he later became the President of.  Aldo had engineering skills too. He could take anything apart and put it back together again to fix it himself. He changed his own automobile oil, jarred his own olives, and enjoyed making Christmas ornaments and other decorative objects involving woodworking and painting in two crafting areas he set up in his New York basement and Florida garage. Aldo enthusiastically helped all of his neighbors on Barbara Street in Elmont, New York, from car repairs to sharing where he found a bargain. He was a sociable person and enjoyed being an asset to his community. In Port Saint Lucie, Florida, he, and Nellie, befriended their neighbors, Gloria, Lynette, Marnie, Christine, and John. Dearest friends of theirs worth mentioning include Anne and Joe Raiano, whom they played cards with for over 30 years, and Agnes, Lou, Sandra, and Steven Arnone, with whom they shared weekly dinner parties. On August 12, 2021, Aldo lost his wife, Nellie, to cancer. Aldo is survived by his sister, Miranda Arnone Greco, and her children Fabio Greco and wife, Daniela Marotta Greco, Donatella Greco, and Massimiliano Greco, Aldo's cousin, Ciro Guastella and his children, Marisa Guastella, and Gordon Guastella, Aldo's brother, Salvatore Arnone, Aldo's children, Dr. Maria Arnone, Roberta Arnone, Esq., and Robert Arnone, D.C., and Aldo's grandchildren, Christina Arroyo, Juliana Arroyo, Christopher Arroyo, Marc Arroyo, Mia Arnone, Max Arnone, Sophia Arnone and Ciro Arnone. A celebration of Aldo's life will be held for his immediate family. Interment will also be private.
