David Marsh Craine passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side on January 11, 2021, in Stuart Florida, at the age of 84.
Born in Lockport NY on January 31, 1936, he was the son of the late John Donald Craine and Esther Craine. David was predeceased by his adored wife Ellen (Kolbe) Craine . He is cherished by his daughter, Tara (Craine) Heitzenrater, grand daughter Abigail (Terence) Heitzenrater-Haag , and grandson Craig Heitzenrater. He is also survived by his loving companion of 20 years Elaine Rhodes. Remembering him are his children Stephen (Laurie) Craine and Lauri (Dan) Jorgensen as well as his grandchildren Dave (Ashley) Lewis, Addam Lewis, and Rose Machado. He is survived by his two sisters, Christina (Fred) Haugh, and Stephenie Gordan.
David graduated from Lockport High School in 1954. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was a part of the Air Force Band. Upon returning from service, he was employed at Simon's Steel in Lockport NY where he worked as a Steel worker. He retired from Niagara Specialty Metals in Akron, NY.
As an accomplished and avid saxophonist, he was a lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians, Lockport Local 97 branch. Throughout his life, he remained a passionate racing fan. In his early years he enjoyed racing stock cars while a service member in Colorado, he then transitioned to racing quarter midgets at Limerock Speedway in Caledonia, NY. He continued to "thrill" his family members, and race vintage midget cars until the daring age of 83 years as a member of the Atlantic Coast Old Timers Association. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and anyone who was lucky enough to know him and his many stories.
A memorial service will be held at a later time at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, loving donations may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, "Hay-Madeira and Harper Inpatient Units" in Stuart, Florida.
