David Avant "Dal" Lithgow, 78, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Port Saint Lucie on March 2, 2025.

Dal was a native Miamian and grew up and lived most of his life in Miami Shores, FL. He is the son of the late David and Amelia Lithgow who founded and owned Lithgow Funeral Centers. Dal attended Miami Country Day School, Admiral Farragut, and graduated from Hendersonville High School where he excelled in running track. He also attended the University of Miami. He graduated from Miami Dade School of Mortuary Science and became a licensed Funeral Director and worked in the family business and several other funeral companies in South Florida and Alabama until he retired to Port St. Lucie in 2014.

Dal and his wife, Kathy, loved traveling to little out of the way towns exploring their history and wandering through antique stores and sampling their local cuisine. They fell in love with the town of Eufaula, Alabama and purchased a 140 year old dream home where they spent an amazing 6 years making wonderful memories.

Dal was a dedicated and loyal Canes fan. He delighted in attending as many games as he could and if he could not watch it on TV, you could find him carrying around his radio listening to the game no matter what he was doing.

Dal also loved sitting on the beach soaking up the rays of the sun and listening to the pounding of the waves which is why he chose to spend most of his life in Florida.

In the past 10 plus years, Dal and his wife Kathy, shared a passion for Celebrate Recovery, which is a Christ centered recovery program. There they developed an enhanced love of Jesus through their commitment to the program. Dal loved his Sundays attending church with Kathy and going to the farmers market.

Dal will be remembered as an avid sports fan, his love for gardening and cooking and his playful personality. But he will be truly remembered as the most beloved Pop-Pop to his four grandchildren who were the joy of his life. From summers in Alabama, Pop-Pop days, pool fun to tea parties, he was the best Pop-Pop.

Dal leaves behind his devoted wife of 34 years, Kathy Williams Lithgow, son David Avant Lithgow (Lorraine) of Alexandria, VA, stepdaughters, Jennifer Melton (Matt) of Palm City, FL, Christine Edge Cochran (Robert) of Axton, VA, brother Donn Lithgow (Janet) of Ponte Vedra, FL, his adored grandchildren Tyler, R.J., Christian, and Kyndal.

A Celebration of Life Services will be held at Life Quest Church, 3998 SW Leighton Farms Ave., Palm City, Florida 34990 on Saturday June 14, 2025 at 10:30 A.M.

In the spirit of Dal, the dress is Florida casual. His fashion style was dress shorts and linen button-down shirts, Tommy Bahama shirts, or a Miami Hurricane or a Celebrate Recovery shirt. Any of these choices would be a great tribute to Dal and make the family smile.

In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to Life Quest Church/Celebrate Recovery.
