IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dean
Burtchell
April 21, 1935 – April 16, 2022
Stuart – C. Dean Burtchell went to be with his Lord and Savior at the Treasure Coast Hospice with his loving family by his side on April 16, 2022. Dad was born in Mars Hill, Maine, on April 21, 1935, the son of the late William and Greta (Boyd) Burtchell. He lived 81 years in Mars Hill, Maine, and moved to Stuart, Florida, to be with his family and he loved living there.
Dad worked hard his entire life as a Potato Farmer and Truck Broker. He dedicated many hours to the community of Mars Hill. He operated the Mars Hill skating rink for several years. He also helped organize the Mars Hill recreation and little league programs. His favorite role, however; with assistance, was planning and managing the Mars Hill Homecoming Parades. Dad's favorite past time was growing huge vegetable gardens and strawberries. Dad got a lot of satisfaction from sharing his vegetables. He loved watching his beloved "Red Sox" and was so happy to see them win the World Series after cheering them on for so many years. In Florida, Dad enjoyed playing a competitive game of dominoes with his special friends, Bill and Carol Jacobsen. (Oh, is it my turn?)
More than anything Dad loved his family. He was "Pappy" to all his grandchildren and "Oreo Man" to his great-grandchildren because he would always have "Oreos" hidden in his pockets for them. He is survived by his Wife and Love of his Life, Mavis (Grass). Dad and Mom recently celebrated their 65 th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his two children: daughter Luanne Caron and Dennis of Stuart, and son Steve Burtchell and Terry of Port Orange, Florida.
Pappy's pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Dustin Sargent and Leslie, of Vero Beach, Florida; Holly Balmer and Mike of Ormond Beach, Florida; Jenny Ogden and Chase of Jackson, Mississippi; Marcy Matthews and John of Wake Forest, North Carolina; Stacy Caron and David of Fletcher, Oklahoma; and Jessica Mitchell and Scooter also of Fletcher. His great-grandchildren are Parker and Callie Sargent; Amelia Balmer; Cora and Julien Ogden, Jack Matthews; Cassidy Caron, Brenen and Wesley Pantoja and Brody and Briaunna Mitchell.
Dad is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Norsworthy and Tom of Presque Isle, Maine and Beverly Delong and Vernon, also of Presque Isle along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law and father-in-law Bessie and Donald Grass and brother-in-law Bryant Grass.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Encompass Rehabilitation of Stuart and the Treasure Coast Hospice who provided such loving and professional care to Dad and the entire family. There will be a private graveside service at King's Grove Cemetery in Mars Hill at a future date.
For those who wish to donate in Dad's memory, please send to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997 or Aroostook House of Comfort, 18 Green Hill Drive, PO Box 867, Presque Isle, ME 04769
