Obituary

Dolores (Doedy) Summers passed away in Stuart, Florida on May 19 at the age of 94.

Doedy was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 14, 1931, the only child of LaRue and Andrew Malone. She spent most of her youth in Pittsburgh, PA, before moving to Miami, Florida to finish her high school years. Doedy married William (Bill) Summers in 1950, and they celebrated 71 years of marriage before Bill passed away in July, 2021.

Doedy was a loving figure to her four daughters, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She took great pride in each and every one of them. She also loved Layla, her puppy companion for 15 years (now living in Orlando).

She led an active civic life and spent time supporting causes she believed in. She was head of the Building Committee for Immanuel Lutheran Church, and a member of the Board of Trustees for the Martin County Library System. Doedy held a leadership role or participated in many political and community activities in the 46 years she lived in Martin County. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing special dresses for her girls. Later in life she created beautiful needlework for her grandchildren and most of her great grandchildren. Doedy and Bill owned a ranch in Indiantown and she was an equal partner and worked along side Bill building fence, inoculating and herding cattle. They enjoyed hosting large dinners at their log home where everyone was welcome. Church life was important to her, and she loved singing in the choir of every church she attended. Doedy loved her family, friends, Bill, Layla and her African Violets. Her big smile, her stories and her love will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, LaRue (Quinn) Malone and Andrew Malone, and her loving husband, Bill Summers. She is survived by her four daughters: Andrea Burkhalter, Denise Maynard, Cheryl Summers, and Lora Fegley, Sons-in-laws: Robert Maynard, Jeff Farr and Brent Fegley, Grandchildren: Eric, Justin and Summer Maynard, Amber Queen, Megan Smith, Dallas Burkhalter, Abbi Diego, Haley Bernhard, Harper and Cleo Farr. Great grandchildren: Augustine, Sebastian, Roman and Max Diego; Magnolia, Gracyn and Sutton Jane Burkhalter; Owen and Sawyer Smith; Roderick and Kelly Queen; Amos Bernhard; Nora, Celt, and Faye Morgan.

We will celebrate Dolores' life on Friday, May 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2655 SW Immanuel Drive, Palm City, FL. Reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
