Dorothy Ann Green (nee. Dorothy Ann Kraus) passed away peacefully and not alone at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, Florida just after midnight on the 29 th of May at the age of exactly 99 and a half. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on November 29 th , 1924, and was third youngest and the last survivor in a family of 10 children. She loved to talk about her younger days working in the Kraus Department Store, playing cards, mostly pinochle and poker, knitting, sewing, fishing with her grandchildren. She was an expert at porcelain-painting and watercolors, and treasured family picnics and cards at the family cottage on Lake Erie. She attended St. Mary's School and St. Benedict's Academy in Erie where she proudly played basketball. After WW2 she married Robert L. Green and lived initially in Erie. Later, with their young family of three, Dorothy and Bob moved to eastern PA to Berwick where she spent several decades enjoying a rich life of antiquing and picnicking near the Pocono Mountains. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a Brownie Scout and Girl Scout leader. Upon the death of her husband Robert, she moved back to Erie and later to Jensen Beach and Stuart, Florida. Living in Jensen and Stuart during the last decades of her life where she delighted in visits from her many loving nieces and nephews, and grandchildren. In Jensen Beach she was the head of her bridge club. Dorothy was quick to get up to dance, especially to swing music, and spent happy years accompanying friends to Hawaii and on gambling dinner cruises. She loved to laugh, watch the birds and bunnies in the front yard, and pet the family dogs and cats—especially River, her accompanying Australian Sheperd, in her last days. In her final decade she lived out her days at her daughter Susan's house in Stuart.
Dorothy will be buried alongside her husband in a family grouping with her brothers Jack Kraus and Bud Kraus and in-laws nearby, at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Erie. Daughter of Helen (Frank) Kraus and John Kraus, she is survived by her three children: Diane Marie Hall and her husband Robert Hall of Camphill, PA, and Robert John Green of New Bern, NC, and Susan (Susie) Dorothy Saint Sing of Stuart, FL; and Grandson Kristopher Robert Hall; Grandson Jonathon Michael Hall and his wife Lorna and Great Grandson Jonathon Finley B. Hall of Berthoud, CO; Grandson Kevin Hall and his wife Casey and Great Grandchildren Maximus James and Ava Katherine Hall, of Camphill, PA; Granddaughter Jenipher Green and her husband Drew Weiss and Great Granddaughter Emma Grace Weiss of Tabernacle, NJ; Granddaughter Stephanie Green of Tabernacle, NJ; Grandson Jonathon Green of Wind Gap, PA; Granddaughter Elizabeth Gervasi and her husband Drew and Great Grandsons Brayden and Brody Gervasi of Voorhees, NJ; Granddaughter Alixandra Melman and her husband Aaron and Great Grandson Emmett Melman of Mont Clare, PA; Cathy Leonard and Great Granddaughters Caoilin Leonard and Keira Hall of State College, PA; Debby Tittle of Wind Gap, PA; and sister-in-law Dorothy Kraus.
The family would like to especially thank Rick and her caregiver Stacey and friend Linda, and neighbors Russ, Jerry and Ed, and Linda who helped in her daily care, and all the nurses and aides including Santos and Lucy on her final night at Hospice.
A Memorial Mass will be held on a later date at Our Lady of Mercy in Harbor Creek, PA. Her burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Erie, PA at 11:30 AM on June 20 th . Memorial Donations may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice of Stuart, FL, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997, Alzheimer's Community Care, 800 Northpoint Parkway, Suite 101-B, West Palm Beach, FL 33407, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. A private local Stuart, FL memorial will be planned.
