Dorothy Josephine Smith, 92, of Palm City passed away January 26, 2016 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart.
Mrs. Smith was born June 25, 1923 in Newark, NJ. She had been a resident of Palm City, FL for fifteen years, coming from Marathon, FL and prior to that, Matawan, NJ.
She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary #4745 (NJ), Keyport Yacht Club (NJ), Marathon Yacht Club (FL), and Stuart Sunshine of Deborah.
Mrs. Smith worked for the town of Matawan, NJ. She was a member of the Board of Education in Matawan as well as the local and state PTA in New Jersey.
Mrs. Smith was an accomplished business woman creating custom made slipcovers and curtains in NJ.
Upon moving to Marathon, she opened a realty business after earning an Associate degree.
Survivors include her loving children, son Harold Smith and his wife Patricia of Matawan, NJ; daughters, Dorothy Smith of Palm City, FL and Frances Masiello and her husband Robert of Stuart, FL; brother, William Ritchings; sisters, Joan Scheller and Carol Notte; beloved six grandchildren, and cherished eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Joseph Francis Smith on April 25, 2012.
Services: The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
