Obituary

Edward Anthony DeMarco

April 16, 1947 – April 8, 2026

Edward Anthony DeMarco, lovingly known as Ed, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, in Stuart, Florida, at the age of 78.

Born in Camden, NJ on April 16, 1947, Ed spent his early years in Hammonton before moving to Atlantic City during his grade school years. His family was well known in the Chelsea Heights community through the DeMarco Family Market, a place that reflected the strong family roots and work ethic that would define Ed’s life.

Ed graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1966 and proudly served in the Army National Guard Reserve. He went on to build a long and successful career with New Jersey Bell Telephone, where he was respected for his dedication, leadership, and work ethic. During his career, he served as chairman of his union, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. He was a proud member of IBEW Local 827, maintaining strong ties to his union community throughout his life.

In addition to his career, Ed was an entrepreneur who owned and operated two businesses during his lifetime in Smithville and Ocean City, New Jersey, further reflecting his drive and commitment to providing for his family.

Ed was the true definition of the life of the party. He had a heart of gold and a personality that drew people in instantly. Caring, loving, and endlessly generous, he had a gift for storytelling and a sense of humor that could light up any room. Whether sharing a laugh, telling a great story, or simply enjoying the moment, Ed made people feel welcome and valued.

In his free time, Ed enjoyed being with his family, golfing, fishing, and visiting Key West, where he loved soaking up the sun and spending time at his favorite watering holes.

Ed had a larger-than-life personality and a way with words that those who knew him will never forget. Known by many nicknames—including Ace, Eddie Spaghetti, and Eddie Bag o’ Donuts—he brought humor and energy wherever he went. He was famous for his colorful expressions and familiar sayings, often delivered with perfect timing and a twinkle in his eye. If you asked when something would take place, his answer was always “Thursday at 4 o’clock,” and if you wondered where someone was, he’d jokingly reply, “he went to the dump and the dogs ate him.” Along with classics like “just sayin’,” “the thing is…,” and “you’re lying, your feet stink and you don’t love Jesus,” these lines became part of his signature charm. His humor and gift for storytelling will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Above all, Ed cherished his loving family. He was a devoted husband to Barbara (née Devinney). He was previously married to Kathleen Mannering Perfetti, the mother of his children. Ed was a loving father and a proud grandfather who took immense pride in raising his children, finding his greatest joy in watching his family grow. His grandchildren were a special source of happiness, and his time with them created memories that will be treasured forever.

Ed’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family. He taught those around him the importance of enjoying life, staying connected, having a sense of humor, and never missing an opportunity to share a smile or a story.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Angelina DeMarco. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his children, Gina Griffith (Jack), Aimee Shaw (Cameron), and Dan Daughenbaugh (Kristal); his seven cherished grandchildren, Em, Corinne, Jackson, Adele, Sophia, Oliver, and Phoebe; his sister, Susan Notaro; and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit—full of joy, humor, and love—will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. A memorial and celebration of Ed’s life is being planned for Thursday, June 18, 2026, in Stuart, Florida - Hawaiian shirts and flip-flops are encouraged! As Ed would have wanted, it is being held on a “Thursday at 4 o’clock.”
