Obituary

Edwin "Ed" Ruphen Malin Jr, 89, of Stuart, Florida passed away peacefully, Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Treasure Coast Hospice. His immediate family had a private celebration of life service on New Year's Eve. (A service will be held in the future at Ft. Caroline UMC in Jacksonville, FL)

Edwin was born on August 28, 1927 in Louisville, KY to Edwin Ruphen Malin Sr. and Donna Shivel Malin. In 1945, he joined the Navy shortly before the end of World War II. While on deployment, his ship stationed at NAS Mayport in Florida and at a local church dance, he met his future wife, Gloria Sikes. They were married on July 1, 1950 at Arlington United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, FL. He graduated from the College of Engineering at North Carolina State College in 1952. Ed first moved his family to Guam when he began his career with the US Government. He then transferred to the Canal Zone [Panama] as an engineer and lived there with his family from 1961-1982 retiring as Chief of the Power Branch for the Panama Canal Company/Commission. While living in the Panama Canal Zone, he enjoyed boating, golfing, volleyball, playing bridge, and nightly walks with his wife, Gloria. During his retirement years he took up square dancing, cheering on the Florida State Seminoles, and continued his love of telling stories and singing church hymns. Ed was a lifelong member of United Methodist congregation.

Edwin is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Gloria of Stuart, FL and his four children, Edwin "Eddie" Malin and his wife, Dottie Whitlow of Marietta, GA, Kathryne Malin of Largo, FL, Helen Malin-Christiansen of Salem, VA, Donna Meyerson and her husband Adam of Stuart, FL; his grandchildren, Shane Saville and his daughter Hali of St. Augustine, FL, Amy Christiansen of Elkhart, IN, Samuel and Benjamin Meyerson of Stuart, FL
