Edwin F. Stastny's Obituary
Edwin F. Stastny, age 94, of Bensenville, Illinois, passed away September 6th , 2017.
He was born Aug 7, 1923 in Oak Park, Illinois, the only son to Edwin W. and Josephine (Hajek) Stastny.
Enlisting in Army Air Force in 1943, Edwin served in the Pacific theater supporting B-29 missions based in Guam.
After returning to civilian life in the suburbs Chicago, Edwin continued employment at Western Electric where he continued his career until retirement in 1980. In his spare time he gained a flight instructor rating and taught for many years at various small air fields around the Chicago area. He was an AOPA member for 67 years.
He married Gladys Haiges in November 1946, a marriage that lasted almost 71 years. Both enjoyed outdoor activities including fishing, and camping, traveling the western Great Lakes region of the country.
Always willing to care for strays, the house inevitably had cats or a dog or two roaming inside.
They also became involved with vintage car clubs and were members of AACA and SDC while often showing their 1963 Studebaker Hawk (which they had purchased new) or 1953 Studebaker Land Cruiser.
Survivors include two sons Edmund and William.
A Memorial Service is planned to take place in the Chicago area with the date and time to be announced.
