Erwin Frank Hlavac, 90 of Nettles Island on Jensen Beach, Florida passed away March 19, 2017 at Martin Medical Center in Stuart, Florida.

Born January 31, 1927 in Cicero, Illinois he was the son of Frank and Bessie (Zitek) Hlavac. He was a snow bird for ten years before making Florida his permanent residence in 1994, coming from Berwyn, Illinois.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the WWII Victory Medal.

Erwin worked as a butcher and was a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America (later known as United Food and Commercial Workers, UFCW). He later worked for Cook County Sheriff's Office as Deputy Chief of Maintenance for eight years.

Erwin was a member of the Moose Lodge and Men's Club of Nettles Island. He enjoyed singing and used his talents as a member of the Men's Chorus of Nettles Island.
One of his other hobbies was woodworking.

He enjoyed sports, at least Chicago's teams. He was a fan of the Cubs, Blackhawks and the Bears.

Survivors include his Dolores H. Hlavac; children Janet Breiden (Bruce) Erwin F. Hlavac, Jr. (Kim); grandchildren, Julie Graham, Jeffrey Gutke (Carol), Jason Gutke (Dawn), Andre Fossum, Melissa Hlavac; great grandchildren, Lucy, Mallory, Walker and Griffin Graham and Nathan, Luke, Benjamin, Dawson and Jackson Gutke; step-children, Anne Marie Reynolds, John Jennings (Kim); and step grandchildren, Ashley, Jessica and Mikayla Jennings.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Gutke and son-in-law, William Reynolds.

Memorial Service will be 2:30 PM, Saturday, March 25, 2017n at Nettles Island Rec Hall, Jensen Beach, FL.

Burial will be at Bohemian National Cemetery of Chicago at a later date.
