Obituary

Stuart, Florida: Esther Marie Garland, 92, of West Gloucester, Mass., died on May 25th. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman Marston Garland, a retired Gloucester police officer, and Caroline (Middleton) Garland; her two brothers, Norman Garland, Jr. and Leroy Garland, both retired City firemen; and her sister, Evelyn Cleveland. She is survived by several nieces, and members of her "adopted" Mansfield family.

A high school graduate of 1946, she went immediately to work for what would become Cape Ann Bank and Trust. She stayed with the bank through its many changes, becoming an officer and having a career as manager of the bookkeeping department, proudly retiring from The Bank of New England in 1986.

Upon retirement, Esther split her time between her Kingman Acres condo in Stuart, and her summer home with the Mansfield and McMullen families in Gloucester, eventually becoming a full time Florida resident, living year around in Stuart.

She enjoyed her Florida life, her little dog, Lola, and loved reminiscing about the many adventures she had over the years and the traveling she was able to do. Esther took great comfort knowing, at the end of her life, she would be going home to West Gloucester.

Per her request there will be no services.
