Obituary

Eugene B Desjarlais, 83, of Hobe Sound, Florida passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 9, 2021.  He was the husband of the late Anne M. (Hroszowy) Desjarlais.  Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Leo and Loretta (Latraverse) Desjarlais.

Eugene is a veteran of the United States Air Force and proudly served as a Police Officer in the town of Blackstone, Massachusetts, where he touched many lives.

After retiring, Eugene and Anne moved to Florida where he enjoyed working at PGA Country Club and Champions Club.

Eugene loved hosting large casual gatherings for family, friends and neighbors.  Gene and Anne were well known for open house Christmas Eve and summer clam bakes.  He loved cooking, music and dance and was very involved in family activities.  He enjoyed watching and cheering on, as well as coaching his children in life, sports, concerts, and marching band.  He loved spending time with all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  In later years he enjoyed traveling, golf, and the Sugar Sands Community.  He was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church.

He lovingly leaves behind his six children: Christine (m. Lee Bergmann) of Arizona, Henry (m. Robin) of North Carolina, Susan of Florida, James (m. Linda) of Massachusetts, Lisa (m. John Amaral) of Rhode Island and Jeri (m. Bruce Beckwith) of Massachusetts, ten grandchildren: Jamie, Tracy, Drew, Bryan, Alexandra, Samantha, Ashleigh, Jacob, Cameron and Haley and four great-grandchildren: Nolan, Jamisen, Violet and Peyton as well as at least one on the way.

He also leaves two brothers, Raymond Desjarlais, of Florida, and Paul Desjarlais, of Virginia; five sisters, Beatrice Choquette, of Rhode Island, Jeanine Kelly, of Rhode Island, Lillian Decelles, of Maryland, Annette Desjarlais and Rina Houle, of Florida and their families.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur Desjarlais, Ernest Desjarlais and baby Henry Desjarlais.

A celebration of Gene and Anne's life will be held at a later date in New England at the family's convenience.
