Obituary

Eugene "Pops" Escayg 67, of Stuart, Florida was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on May 1, 2017 surrounded by the love of his family.
Gene was born on January 1 in Chaguanas, Trinidad to Rita Hedenberg and Leo StClair Escayg. On October 28, 1971 he married his true love Patricia Shepherd and moved to New York City. Together they started a family and established roots in Long Island where they lived for 25 years and raised their two sons, Sean and Maurice. In 1998 their first grandchild, Deja Telese Escayg, was born and forever changed their lives. Gene and Patricia relocated to Greenville, North Carolina to be close to her and became an intricate part of her life. They formed a love for the special town and the friends they met there, many were considered to be like family. Gene and Patricia resided in Greenville for 15 years before making a final move to Stuart, Florida. Once again they quickly established an abundant life in Florida and spent most of their free time on the water, cooking for family and enjoying treasured time with their grand children. One of their biggest accomplishments came on January 31, 2014, when Eugene and Patricia happily became US Citizens.
Gene established a successful tax preparation business. From early on he had a dream to run a business that would provide a service to others. Gene's clients were more like family than customers. He invited them into his home, introduced them to his family and became a part of their lives. He was a confidant to many, never judging other's faults and always offering unwavering support. His close relationship with God comforted and guided him throughout his life.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Patricia Escayg, sons Sean Escayg and Maurice Escayg, daughter in laws Nicole "Nikki" Telese, Danielle Escayg and Jennifer Escayg, brother Frank Escayg, sister Paula Barnes, grandchildren Deja, Philomena, Vianna, Davien, Alexander, and Mariah, nieces Tamar, Anjanet, Nikisha, and Tammi, nephews Malcolm, Jason, Joshua, and David and many close friends and neighbors that have been instrumental to his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rita Hedenberg and Leo StClair Escayg, and his sister Janice Palmer.
A public viewing is planned for Wednesday, May 10th at Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home from 1-3pm. A service will follow at 3pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Eugene's life. Patricia wishes to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.
