Eugene A. Spangenberger, age 86, of Hobe Sound, FL passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 21, 2015. Eugene (Gene) was born March 22, 1929 in Yonkers, NY, son of the late Anthony Spangenberger and Margaret Hughes. Gene, also known as Spanky to many, was an avid golfer; enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren; playing poker and going to the race track and the beach with good friends. He was also a serious sports fan, particularly the Red Sox and PGA Golf.

On June 6, 1945, in Yonkers, NY Gene was united in marriage to his loving wife, Janet who passed away in April, 2013. They spent many happy years living and raising their children on the South Shore of Massachusetts. They moved to Florida 24 years ago, settling at Eaglewood in Hobe Sound.

Gene is survived by his children, Barbara McKinnon (husband Richard, deceased) of Weymouth, MA; Eugene Paul Spangenberger (wife Tammy, deceased) of Sabattus, ME; and Joseph & Patricia Spangenberger of Scituate, MA; grandchildren, Karen and Laura McKinnon; Danny, Andy, Brittany, Ryan and Alicia Spangenberger; and great grandchildren, Bliss and Kalysta. He is also survived by our family's "Angel" Claire Walstrom of Hobe Sound, who provided friendship and extraordinary care to Spanky and Janet during their final years.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday October 29, 11:00 AM at St. Christopher Catholic Church (12001 SE Federal Hwy; Hobe Sound, FL 33455), followed by a reception at Eaglewood.
