Evelyn M. Brooks 91, of Jensen Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on the morning of January 20, 2017. She had been under the loving care of The Treasure Coast Hospice after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
She was born on September 4, 1925 in Bronx, New York to Frederick Kuehnast and Margaret (Daut) Kuehnast. She married her lifelong sweetheart and soulmate, Frederick W. Brooks and had just celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on June 23, 2016.
Evelyn was a devout Christian of the Catholic Faith and after the family moved from Patchogue, New York in 1971 to Jensen Beach, where she attended St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church from its inception in 1972.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Margaret Kuehnast and daughter, Hazel M.
Brooks.
She is survived by her loving husband, Frederick W. Brooks of Stuart; daughters, Christine Brooks Harrington and her husband, Patrick, Sr. of Port St. Lucie, Florida and June Brooks Sonzella and her husband, David of Stuart; granddaughter, Brooke Sonzella; grandson, Sean Sonzella of Stuart; and step-grandchildren, Devon Taylor and her husband, Jason and Patrick Harrington, Jr. of Port St. Lucie.
The family would like to thank all of those that cared for her most, especially the doctors, nurses, aides, counselors, chaplains and volunteers from Treasure Coast Hospice and all other organizations, all her friends and loved ones that touched her soul with their loving, caring and kind spirits. We cannot thank you enough for all you gave so freely.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 6-8:00 pm at Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, 950 SE Monterey Road, Stuart. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 2555 NE Savannah Road, Jensen Beach. Burial will follow at All Saints Episcopal Church Cemetery in Jensen Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions as a memorial be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, Florida 34997.
