IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eyo
Nsien
August 21, 1937 – November 21, 2023
Eyo Emmanuel Nsien, born Eyo Mark Asam, passed away peacefully at her home in Port Saint Lucie, Florida on November 21, 2023. She was 86 years old.
Eyo Nsien is preceded in death by her loving husband and soulmate of 62 years Dr. Emmanuel James Nsien, and her sibling, Enobong Edukere of Eket, Nigeria. She is survived by her children: James Nsien, Janet Nsien Gayden, Victor Nsien and Mark Nsien; her sibling, Nkoyoh Nyanah of Eket, Nigeria, and her dear friend and "adopted daughter," Laura DeBerard.
Eyo Nsien was born on August 21, 1937, in Eket, Nigeria to Mark and Martha Asam. It is also in Eket where she came to know and later marry the love of her life, Emmanuel James Nsien. The oldest of three, Eyo at an early age, exhibited a nurturing and caring spirit that drew her to the nursing profession. Barely out of high school, she was chosen among a select group of young women in her town to attend the Midwifery Nursing School in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria. Upon completing her studies, she quickly rose through the ranks to the level of midwife supervisor. By this time, she had married and was raising three children. After immigrating to the US with her husband and young children, she went on to earn an associate degree to become an obstetrics nurse technician. However, that was not enough. So, with five children, and while working full-time, Eyo went back to school and earned a BS in nursing from Temple University in PA. For the next 15 years, she worked as an RN until she retired and moved to Florida where she and her husband made Port Saint Lucie their home. Her children remember her as a strong, determined woman of small stature but of great character, grace and dignity who encouraged them to be the best at whatever they chose to pursue in life.
Eyo Nsien was a dedicated wife and mother of strong faith who loved the Lord with all her heart and lived a Christ centered life, which was evident in how she carried herself and lived her life. She was an active and dedicated member of Morningside Church where she offered her services where and when she was needed. She enjoyed cooking especially traditional Nigerian dishes for her family and friends. In her spare time, Eyo loved to knit blankets, sweaters, hats, gloves and scarves for her children, grandchildren, friends, neighbors, and newborns in local nurseries.
She was a loving, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who put the care and well-being of her family and children above her own. Her memory lives on with her 10 grandchildren, great grandson, nieces, and nephews whom she adored and who affectionately called her "Mommy-Eyo". She will be missed by her family, church family, friends, and neighbors alike.
Eyo Nsien's life will be remembered during a service scheduled for Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 9:30AM at Morningside Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate her life. She will be interned at Rolling Oaks Cemetery immediately following the church service.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations on behalf of Eyo Nsien to Morningside Church at 2180 SE Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie, FL. Condolences can be sent to https://obits.treasurecoastseawinds.com/obituary/eyo-nsien.
