Felix Charles Dechmerowski, 77 of Jensen Beach, Florida passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart with loving members of his family near by.
Born June 23, 1941 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania he was the son of Felix A. and Mary M. (nee Viszlay) Dechmerowski. He has resided on the Treasure Coast for over 30 years.
Felix served in the U. S. Navy and Naval Reserve between June 1959 and June 1965. He served on the USS Lake Champlain CV-39 and was involved with the space program early on, part of the duties of this ship was the pick up of Alan Shepard and Freedom 7 when Shepard became the first American to reach space when launched on a suborbital flight May 5, 1961.
Felix retired from Sales and had worked in the hearing aid industry.
Felix was a member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #3416 in Ft Pierce . He had served as Past Grand Knight, Past Faithful Navigator and former District Deputy for K of C.
Felix love and favorite pastime was his family. He was also a proud fan of his hometown Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.
Felix enjoyed watching western movies with his wife, Joan. His favorite were those with John Wayne.
Felix was a loving family man, charitable to his community through his work with Knights of Columbus, a patriot with his military service and legacy. He was a dedicated Pittsburgh fan and will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Joan Dechmerowski; children, Felix Dechmerowski, Jr. (Vicki) of Dale City, Virginia; Lisa Wiswell (John) of Jensen Beach, Amy Martin of Jensen Beach; grandchildren, Kenny, Kimberly and Christopher Dechmerowski, Kyle, Ian, Blake, Morgan and Mallory Wiswell, Liam and Cassidy Martin; one great grandson, Thompson Cole Dechmerowski; and brothers, Stanley Dechmerowski (Charlotte) of Pittsburgh and John Dechmerowski (Pam) of Macclenny, Florida.
Felix was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Mary and brothers, James and Robert.
The family will receive friends from 5 PM to 8 PM, Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home in Stuart and 10:30 AM to 11 AM, Thursday, January 17, 2019 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Jensen Beach. Knights of Columbus will provide a prayer service on Wednesday evening during the visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Thursday, January 17, 2019 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church with military honors following Mass.
