Obituary

Fred L. D'Onofrio, 93, of West Hartford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully in Stuart, Florida on November 10, 2015 in the loving care of his daughter and son in law, Kim and Chuck Mack.

He was born on October 3, 1922 in Hartford Connecticut where he resided most of his life. Fred was a proud Veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army Infantry as a combat dental technician in the battle of New Guinea and Luzon. He proudly received the Philippine Liberation ribbon with the Bronze star service award, the Victory Medal, and other laudatory medals. He was the recipient of a personal letter from President Harry S. Truman acknowledging his patriotism.

After his military service, Fred worked as a commercial painter and paper hanger at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.

Fred was a fine musician, playing the drums for many years at the Beckley Garden Inn in Berlin. Fred loved the game of golf. He was a life long member of the Elks Lodge #0019 in Hartford.

Fred is survived by his devoted daughter, Kim Mack and her husband Chuck of Palm City, Florida; his sister, Lenore Alexsunes; his niece, Marcia Alexsunes; his nephews, Raymond Alexsunes and Anthony D'Onofrio and his friend and former wife, Nel D'Onofrio. He treasured many wonderful years with his close companion Dorothy Wolf.

His many mornings with friends at A.C. Petersen's and Dunkin Donuts were favorite occasions for Fred. He dearly appreciated his close friends for their companionship and support.

A service to celebrate his life will be held in Connecticut, Spring of 2016.

In lieu of flowers contributions as a memorial may be made in Fred's memory to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street Stuart, Florida 34997.
