Port St. Lucie

Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Gail Marie Funicelli Durkin, 78, of Port St. Lucie announce her passing on July 8, 2019.  She passed peacefully after a long illness and was surrounded by people who loved and cared for her.

Gail Marie Funicelli Durkin was born in Newark, NJ in 1941 to the late Charles and Marie Funicelli.  She always spoke of her childhood with nostalgia.

Gail married the love of her life, Paul Durkin, on February 10, 1962 in NJ and moved to FL in 1969.  They were married a wonderful 57 years.  She was a devoted and loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and a friend to many.  She was also known as "Hon, My Girl, Mom, Gamma, G-ma, Great Gamma, Gailsie, Sis, Aunt Sis, and Aunt Deese".

Gail is survived by her husband Paul, daughter, Charlene, and son-in-law Clark, grandchildren Joe (Jordan), Casey (Shawn), Zakary, and Dylan and great grandchild Shawn Jr; as well as extended grandchildren Nicole (Bryan), Jordanna, Greg (Brianna), Stacey (Mike), and great grandchildren Mackenzie, Molly, Max, Levi, and Palmer.  She is also survived by her sister Charlotte, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother Robert in 1992 and her son Paul in 2015.

Gail's greatest joy was her family, she was immensely proud of them and leaves behind beautiful memories for them.  All of the family times: dinners, holidays, birthdays, vacations, and every day together was made extra special because of her.  She loved to be present at everything her grandchildren did.  She enjoyed cooking and her home was always open to family and friends.

She will be remembered for her endless kindness, helpfulness, selflessness, thoughtful ways, strength, and her positivity.  She is loved and gave love unconditionally.
