IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gene Dorothy
Cosby
April 18, 1927 – April 18, 2025
Gene Dorothy Crosby (ne Wilson , Hyland) passed away on her 98th birthday, April 18, 2025 - on Good Friday at her home in Stuart, FL attended by her husband and her daughter.
Gene was born in Genoa, NY in 1927 and has been a resident of FL for 10 years after previously having lived most of her life in Walworth, NY and Waxhaw, NC.
During WWII, she served in the US Nurses Cadet Corp. Her primary career was as a registered nurse for Genesee Hospital. Her subsequent career was as a bus driver for the Wayne Central School district. After retiring, she served as a overseas missionary for several years in 3 countries, and then as a hospitality manager at Wycliffe Bible Translators/JAARS center.
Survivors include her husband - Howard Crosby Sr.; daughter - Christine Frost (ne Hyland); sons - Jonathan Hyland, Nathan Hyland, Philip Hyland, David Hyland, and Sterling Hyland. She also has 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her 3 younger brothers, her first husband, Robert E. Hyland, and her youngest son, Eric Hyland.
Gene wrote 3 books As I Remember It, Continuing To Remember and My Life After 2004 - accurately capturing the story of her family's history. Those who know her will describe her as a faithful Christian, a great wife (she was married over 70 years), a wonderful mother, the best kind of friend, full of love, and made of the stuff that a pioneer woman would have needed. She raised kids for 31 years - bringing each kid up in the Lord, cooking a grocery store full of food, washing a mountain of laundry, tending to every hurt, being the center of the family until each kid went off on their own. She's a Proverbs 31 woman, loved by all, and will surely hear the Lord say to her, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
