George Anderson Turner, 79, of Palm City, FL passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Parkway Health and Rehab Center in Stuart.

Born August 19, 1936 in Birmingham, AL, he was the son of Shephard Archie and Margie Elizabeth Turner. In 2010, he moved to Palm City, FL from Long Island, NY.


George was a Sergeant E-4 in the U.S. Marine Corps and a veteran of the Korean Conflict Era. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal with one star.

George retired from TWA as a ramp supervisor. He was also a professional musician and played bass guitar with Wayne Cochran and the C.C. Riders. During his career, he also appeared on the Jackie Gleason Show, recorded with Aretha Franklin, and had been scheduled to go on tour with Otis Redding.


George liked boating, golfing, and traveling, and he was an avid New York Jets fan.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 39 years, Cathleen; loving children, Shannon Turner of San Francisco, CA, Patrick Turner and his wife Gillian of East Strasberg, PA, and Ricky Turner and his wife Ingalill of Falun, Sweden; cherished grandchildren, Jade, Casey, Jenny, Patrik, and Andreas, and step-grandchild, Ted; and sister, Gail Lindstrand of Portland, OR.

George was preceded in death by his son, Casey Turner.
