Gerald (Jerry) Oliveira Soares of Port St. Lucie, Florida and formerly of Fall River, Massachusetts, passed away on February 3, 2016 at the age of 73. He was born in Palo Alto, California to Constance and John Soares. His brothers, John (Butch) and Robert (Chick), predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jonella Soares; two sons, Gerald (Jay) and Michael Soares; one grandson, Gerald (Gerry) Soares; brother Ronald and wife Joanne Soares; and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry was the type of man who listened before he leapt, spoke when he felt it mattered and helped whenever he could. As many of his friends will tell you, he was simply "a great guy."
He was never one to burden people with his problems, but he was always willing to listen to someone else's. His wife and sons know better than anyone how selfless a man he was.
Jerry had a very dry sense of humor and his wit often caught people off guard, but his charm was his smile and everyone who met him knew he was "one of the special ones."
He will leave a big hole in the lives of many, but the time he was here was well spent and the memories of laughter and sarcasm will linger forever with his family and friends.
A private service will be held in the future to celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send a donation to either the National Kidney Foundation [https://www.kidney.org/] or the American Heart Association [https://donatenow.heart.org/].
