Obituary

Giles (Guy) Emil Disch, age 91 passed away after a long illness on Saturday, January 30, at his home in Palm City, FL. Guy was born in the Bronx, NY on May 7, 1929, the son of Elisabeth Von Gerlach and Ellis Disch.

Guy leaves behind the love of his life, Joan, after 65 years of marriage, as well as his two daughters; Libby and Heidi and their families.

Elizabeth (Libby) Culbertson and her husband David reside in Topsfield MA.  Their son, David (Patchett), his wife, Jenny and their daughter, Claire are from Nashville, TN and their son, Alexander Culbertson and his wife Tessa reside in Charlestown, MA.

Guy and Joan's youngest daughter Heidi and her husband William (Bill) Adams live nearby in Palm City, FL.

Guy excelled at school at a young age and was on an accelerated path thru college, graduating from Fordham University in New York with a degree at the age of 18. Following graduation, Guy, was proud to serve in the Army during the Korean War where he was stationed at Fort Monmouth, NJ. While he was there, he met his future wife, Joan Heckt from Rumson, NJ.  They married and moved to Brooklyn, NY where he completed his MBA at New York University and began his career at Union Carbide as a Sales Executive. Guy's future business roles included various Senior Management positions at Stauffer Chemicals, in NY; Keyser Century in Los Angeles; Tenneco Chemicals in NJ and Occidental Chemicals in Houston and Valley Forge, PA.  After "semi" retiring to Palm City, FL he continued consulting for various companies in the Northeast.

Guy was always on the go.  He had a voracious appetite for participating in competitive sports, including golf at his home course, Monarch Country Club and rounds at some of the most prestigious courses in the US, Mexico and Scotland.  He also loved playing competitive tennis well into his 90's.  He was a significant leader in fostering the new game of Pickleball with his tennis friends at Monarch Country Club.  His desire to remain active and competitive was paramount in his life.

Guy also loved to read and keep his mind active with the stories of our times and the Bible.  He attended weekly Bible Study groups at Holy Redeemer Church and was always sure he was at the top of his game with voracious reading, prepared notes and commentary.  These were great nights for him. Guy always returned home with the stories of the Lord….and what was served for dinner!

Reading books was also a lifetime joy for him.  He was lucky to have the Cummings Library so close to him, and he enjoyed his time and the spirited conversation at the monthly Book Club. Guy took great pride in the accolades they gave him for his senior status and longevity of attendance.

One of the retirement gifts he received from a previous business relationship with Century Records was a gold record and a song written just for him.  It fits Guy to a "T".

ODE TO GUY DISCH

Never dots the I's in a letter.

Never believes in using periods at the end of a sentence.

Crossing a "T" is unheard of.

Shakes violently when excited.

Tap dances frequently.

Seems to be extremely popular with female employees

(reason for above mentioned nervous twitch).

Has "Hildegard's" dog hair on his jackets.

Serenades other employees often.

Can't see without his glasses.

Shuffles his feet.

Never shines his shoes.

Talks in spurts and jerks.

Guy drives—Other passenger PAYS—travel claimed on expense account.

Is a strong advocate of meetings (not necessarily those concerning business).

Expert pool cleaner-especially after an earthquake.

Gets T'd off and leaves for Vista Valencia golf course.

Is not necessarily tall,

Could not be considered dark,

Definitely not what you would call handsome.

BUT WE LOVE HIM!

Rest in Peace and Keep Smiling and Dancing
