IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gloria J.
Blair
November 10, 1936 – October 21, 2024
Gloria Joan Blair, a cherished member of the Stuart, Florida community, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on November 10, 1936, in Gardner, Massachusetts, Gloria was the beloved daughter of Leon Goodwin and Edna Nowlin. She spent her formative years in Winchendon, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Murdoch High School in 1954.
Pursuing her passion for nursing, Gloria attended the Henry Hayward School in Gardner, Massachusetts, from 1955 to 1958, where she earned her credentials as a Registered Nurse. Her career began at Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, where she honed her skills and developed a deep commitment to patient care.
On January 23, 1960, Gloria married Joseph Richard Blair from Greenfield, Massachusetts. Together, they built a life filled with love and adventure, residing in Greenfield, South Deerfield, and Northampton before settling in Florence, Massachusetts, in 1969. They remained there until 2007, when they relocated to Stuart, Florida.
Gloria's professional journey was marked by her long tenure at The Northampton State Hospital, where she worked as a dedicated R.N. from 1964 until her retirement in 1992. Even after retiring, her passion for nursing and helping others led her to work part-time at Rockridge Retirement Community.
Beyond her professional life, Gloria was a woman of many talents and interests. She had a love for music and was an active member of The Sweet Adelines, a group that brought joy to many through song. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devout member of The College Church of Northampton, where she sang in the Christmas Cantata for many years. Her commitment to service extended to volunteering at the church's free Health Clinic and assisting at their homeless shelter.
Gloria's compassion knew no bounds, as evidenced by her humanitarian trips to Russia and El Salvador, where she provided medical care and support to children and families in need. In her sixties, she embraced a new challenge by learning to play the piano, demonstrating her lifelong love of learning and personal growth.
After moving to Florida, Gloria became an active member of the North Stuart Baptist Church, now known as Family Church. Her dedication to service continued as she volunteered with The Red Cross and The House of Hope. Gloria was known for her independence and vibrant spirit, living on her own at Harbour Cay Apartments, where she formed deep friendships with her neighbors.
Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph, in 2016, and her sister, Arlene. She is survived by her son, Joseph Blair of Easthampton, Massachusetts, and her daughter, Jill Wuerth, and husband Mark of Palm City, Florida. She also leaves behind her sister Leona, her brother Leo and his wife Jeannie of Winchendon, Massachusetts, and her brother John (Jackie) and his wife Nancy of Rindge, New Hampshire. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Colin Quinn of North Carolina, and Paige and Ryan Wuerth of Florida. Gloria was also a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews, known to some as "Aunt Honey."
A memorial service to celebrate Gloria's life will be held on Saturday, December 14, from 10 AM to 12 Noon at Family Church of North Stuart, located at 1950 NW Federal Hwy, Stuart, Florida. All who knew and loved Gloria are welcome to attend and honor her memory.

Rest in peace, Gloria, knowing that your legacy of compassion and joy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know you.
