Gregory Power, 68, passed away on April 2, 2023 after a lengthy illness at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Brooklyn, NY Greg was a forth of five children His parents relocated to Hollywood , FL when he was 2 . He graduated from Miramar High School and moved to Key Largo FL where his passion for the ocean continued. He was employed at John Pennecamp on the "Discovery" boat which was the beginning of his journey as a licensed boat captain.
Greg joined the Navy for four years and upon discharge returned back to his roots in South Florida. He was a captain on the "Jungle Queen" sightseeing boat for a few years and decided to pursue law enforcement. Greg was employed with Fort Lauderdale Police for 10 years and he retied from St. Lucie County Sherriff's Office after 25 years of service. His most recent employment was with Chapman's Sea School in Port Salerno where he was a boat handling instructor.
One of his proudest work accomplishments was his 1600 ton US Coast Guard Captain license. His knowledge and expertise were second to none.
Greg was predeceased by his parents Vincent and Gloria and brothers Francis, Clifford and Kenneth.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Dawn Mavie Power and 5 beautiful children Sandra Glovier of VA, Gregory Power, Jr of VA, Christopher Power of FL, Candice (Bill)Stewart of FL, Brian (Breanna) Power of FL, 13 grandchildren and brother Vincent (Carol) of FL .As well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
