IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gwen Adelle
Whittle
October 3, 1934 – February 12, 2023
Gwen Adelle Whittle, 88, of Palm City, Florida, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 12 th , 2023.
Gwen was born in Rawlins, Wyoming to Alice and Earl Oberholtzer. Her early life was spent in Colorado and Utah with a return to her place of birth in 1942. As a young woman she moved to Washington, DC to start her career as a secretary in the war office. While working in DC she met her husband Sam E Whittle. With his career in the Air Force the family moved several times with stops in Virginia, Wyoming, Japan, Oklahoma and Mississippi. When her husband Sam retired from the Air Force in 1970, they moved the family to Stuart FL to be close to relatives where he grew up in Salerno.
Professionally, Gwen was the Manager of Radiology Transcription at Martin Memorial Hospital for more than 30 years. After retirement Gwen started her own Transcription business from home and worked for many local physicians well into her 80s. Gwen was very active in her professional association and served many years in many roles. She was a charter member of the Treasure Coast Chapter of the American Association of Medical Transcription and its president for many years. Also, she served as the chair of their annual symposia for multiple years. She was a founding member of the Florida Association of Medical Transcription (FAMT) as well as Vice President for several years. Gwen was always a resource and role model for medical transcriptionists as she would mentor them, give them a job and encouraged them to take on leadership roles within the association. In many ways Gwen was the voice of reason and wisdom. When Gwen spoke everyone listened, as it was always worthwhile and insightful.
Gwen enjoyed family gatherings, spending time with friends, getting lost in a good book, traveling the States as wells as cruising internationally. She will be remembered as a loving, smart, kind and strong woman who loved her family and friends fiercely and would often change her plans willingly to help someone in need.
Gwen always loved butterflies, so each time we see one we will be reminded of her love and hear her say "Everyday is a new day if you are a butterfly".
The family would like to thank Brandy Weinand for her loving care of Grandma for the last couple years of her life, and Treasure Coast Hospice.
Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Whittle, parents Alice Hardy and Earl Ronald Oberholtzer, brothers Ronald Earl and Paul Samuel Oberholtzer and grandson Andrew Gordon Sandelier as well as many dear friends and in-laws. She is survivied by her brother Melvin Oberholtzer of Perry, UT, her four children Sam Whittle of Jasper, FL , Sue Seiden (Newton) of Fresno, CA, Alice Porter (Donald) of Palm City, FL and Joy Sandelier (Dan) of Greenwood, WI; her nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. At Gwen's request, there will be no public service. Donations in her honor can be made to Treasure Coast Hospice(https://treasurehealth.org/)
