Harry Kort, 86, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away suddenly on Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

Born in Morristown, New Jersey, he had been a resident of Florida since 1989, coming from Towaco, Montville Township, New Jersey. He had lived in Stuart, until moving to Vero Beach in January of this year.

He was a graduate of Boonton High School in Boonton, New Jersey and Farleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey and honorably served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.

Harry was an engineer with AT&T, retiring after forty years of service in 1989.

He was a 30 year member of the Towaco, New Jersey Volunteer Fire Department and was also a Line Officer of the Montville, New Jersey Fire Department. Harry also served as Fire Commissioner of District #2 in Towaco, was an Exempt Fireman, and a Life Member of the Montville Fireman's Exempt Fire Association.

He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Shrine and Jester.

Locally, he was a member of the Saints and Sinners Yacht Club in Port Saint Lucie, serving as a Past Commodore and was a member of the Willoughby Golf Club in Stuart.

Survivors include his beloved wife of forty years, Anita G. Kort of Vero Beach; two daughters, Audrey Swartz of Bend, Oregon and Jill Malley of Moraga, California; one son, Richard Holmberg of Saint Thomas, V.I.; one sister, Margaret Suleck of Mebane, North Carolina; and four grandchildren.

A Service to Celebrate His Life will be held at a later date.

Graveside Services with Military Honors and Presentation of the Flag will be at the Arlington National Cemetery.
