Harvey J. Kubista, 92, passed away at his home in Stuart, Florida, on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, with loving family by his side.
Beloved husband of Mildred (Musil), devoted father of Laura Dabose (Paul) of Palm City, Florida, and Linda Curran (Bill) of Downers Grove, Illinois, cherished grandfather of Emma and Maggie Curran, brother of the late Allan Kubista (Selma), and uncle of Elizabeth Rush (David), of Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Harvey was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1921, the eldest son of tailor and opera singer, Henry Kubista and wife, Anna (Karas). He graduated from Farragut
High School in 1940, after which he played shortstop in minor league baseball.
Harvey proudly served his country as a Sgt. TEC3 in the U.S. Army during WW- II, stationed at Shemya in the Aleutian Islands, during which he was awarded
the Bronze Battle Star and the Meritorious Service Unit Plaque. After the war, he owned and operated a mink farm in rural Minnesota with beloved brother,
Allan.
Harvey married the love of his life, Mildred, in 1958, and retired in 1977, after 30 years with the U.S. Postal Service, Branch 11, in Cicero, Illinois, with life
membership in NALC. He then resided in Honolulu, Hawaii, before moving to Florida.
Harvey will be missed and remembered by family and friends as a wonderful husband, father, a lover of golf in his younger days, an avid reader,
a teller of jokes and stories, and the optimistic head of a family of Chicago Cub's fans.
