Helen Minton Burney, 94, of Fort Pierce, Florida, died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at her home.
Helen was the first born daughter of Joseph Roy Minton and Ess Estella Hogarth Minton on October 7, 1919, in Palatka, Florida.
Helen is survived by daughters Carolyn Hutchinson of Fort Pierce, Lillian Strickland of Jacksonville and a son Joseph Burney of Merritt Island, 10 grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Granddaughter.
Helen returned to college after raising her own children to earn her master's degree at Florida Atlantic University and taught school in St. Lucie County at Lawnwood Elementary for 21 years before retiring.
Helen was an ardent traveler and experienced many countries which she shared with her students and her family.
Helen was a lifelong member of Parkview Baptist Church where she taught GA's and Sunday school for many years. Many of her girls have remained members of Parkview. She leaves behind many friends who will remember her life.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Hewitt Burney, her sister, Gladys Eddy, and a son, Robert Burney.
Funeral Services Friday, April 11, 2014, at 11:00am at the Parkview Baptist Church, 403 Hayes Road, Fort Pierce, where the family will receive friends after 10:00am.
Interment will follow at White City Cemetery in Fort Pierce.
