Obituary

Mrs. Helen Schoel, widow of Frederick P. Schoel, died Monday, June 18, 2018 after a short illness.

Born in Gray Court, South Carolina, on July 6, 1924, to John Wesley Ropp, Sr., and Hortense Eugenia Nash Ropp, she was a graduate of Winthrop University, Rock Hill, South Carolina, Class of 1945.She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for seventy-three years (until her death) and a member the Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary teachers sorority, for sixty-one years. Before she retired she taught art in the St. Lucie School System for twenty-eight years. After retirement, she substituted for another sixteen years in St. Lucie County. She was a creative and inventive teacher loved by all of her students. She loved to learn and took graduate courses and continuing education courses at Furman University, University of South Carolina, University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Miami, Indian River State College, and Appalachian State University.

Surviving are one daughter, Karen Hoffmann, two grandchildren, Michael and Heather, and one great-grandson, Joseph, all of Florida, a brother, John Welsey Ropp, Jr.,and his family, and numerous cousins.

She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Port St. Lucie, where a memorial service will be held on July 15, 2018, at 1:00PM. She will be buried at a later date next to her husband at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, South Carolina.
