Irwin Samuel
Sadetsky
May 6, 1933 – July 12, 2023
Irwin Sadetsky, 90, of Port St. Lucie Florida passed away on July 12, 2023 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Fort Pierce. Born in Brooklyn, NY he had been a resident of Port St. Lucie for 24 years, coming from Plainview and Port Jefferson, Long Island, NY.
Prior to retirement he was an Elementary School Principal at Stagecoach Road School in the Middle Country Central School district in Centereach, NY. Prior to that Irwin was a teacher at Joyce Road school in Plainview, NY.
Irwin served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. After the war he received a Bachelors of Science degree then a Masters of Science in 1963, both from Long Island University (LIU). He also completed postgraduate coursework from New York University in 1975. He was honored as Suffolk County School Administrator of the Year, in 1980. He further served as a Director of the Principal's Center at LIU, an adjunct professor at Stony Brook University, and a business consultant to schools and corporations.
In retirement, Irwin served as President of the Cloverfield Home Owners Association when living in Boca Raton. He is also a former President of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Vero Beach, Florida. More recently he has been both the AARP legislative chairperson and leader of the Discussion Club for his community, Kings Isle, Port St. Lucie.
His many wonderful attributes include his compassion and empathy to all. A self-proclaimed Humanist who was an inspirational leader with a great knack for telling stories. He had an infectious laugh and a zest for life. Most of all he fiercely loved and was devoted to his family. Some say he was a modern day Indiana Jones.
He was predeceased by his wife Harriet of 51 years, his son Steven in 2000, his sister Rose Steinberg, and his significant relation of 18 years Mary Ullmann.
Survivors include his son Rick and his wife Sandi, daughter in-law Laurie Sadetsky, granddaughter Karen, grandson David, step-granddaughter Wendi Farina, sister Flora Geller, brother in-law Marv Wolfman and his wife Noel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held later this year.
