Obituary

J. "Jack" Stockton Bryan, 100 years old, died in his home peacefully in Stuart, Florida, on January 12, 2025.

Surviving him are his two daughters, Sharon B. Griffis of Jensen Beach, and Jaye S. Bryan of Stuart, as well as his step daughters, Patty Brent of Palm City, and Sandra Sellars and Carol Cooper of Asheville, NC. He was predeceased by his second daughter, Hylan L. Bryan, and first wife, Sarah Booth Bryan. He was widowed by Barbara Rogers Bryan.

In addition, Jack is survived by two grandchildren, Jason MacNeney and Heather Fawcett, as well as four great grandchildren, Gaitlin MacNeney, Kara MacNeney, Kayle Brown and Thatcher Fawcett, and one great, great grand daughter, Nora MacNeney.

Jack graduated from law school at the University of Florida in 1948 and enjoyed a successful and note worthy law practice spanning the course of 50 years in both Palm Beach and Martin Counties. He served as special council to the Florida Governor for a five county region in South Florida investigating workman compensation cases. He also served on the Palm Beach County School Board, and was past president of the Florida Bar Association. Even in his elder years, Jack's methodical and analytical nature impressed current professionals alike with his perspectives and strategies.

Among other accolades, "Captain Jack" served in the United States Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot in the European Theatre during World War II. He took pride in flying P-47 Thunderbolts and P-51 Mustangs, protecting air bombers in flight as well as strafing missions, one of which was to cover an invasion from General Paton's troops.

Jack was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of West Palm Beach and at one time instructed teenagers on biblical materials.

He was an avid golfer, deep sea fishing enthusiast, and astute poker player.

His second marriage to Barbara Rogers Bryan launched a renaissance period for the second half of his life. Together they enjoyed romance,  traveling, summering in the mountains of North Carolina and blending two families that still abound today.

Jack was a very private man. He lived a long and full life and presented with a quiet sophistication. As a child of the Great Depression and a young man of only 19 when he enlisted in WWII, he was hardworking, disciplined, courageous and continually committed to excellence. Along with his sense of duty, he was the epitome of a southern gentleman with his tailored speech, confident stature and attention to good manners. He had an ability to grasp your attention and then surprise you with a side swipe of comical wit. He maintained a lifelong adoration for the State of Florida where he was born a second generation native to the boom town of West Palm Beach in the early 20's. He never missed a Dolphins or Gators football game and adored Honeybell oranges and sardines on saltine crackers.

As the patriarch of our family, he was a man greatly admired, respected and loved. He will be undoubtedly missed by many and forever honored in our memories.

May you find peace and comfort among the stars, Jack Bryan.
