IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Joseph
Carney
September 11, 1933 – July 13, 2021
James J. Carney, 87, of Port St. Lucie, FL, died on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. Born in New Haven, CT in 1933, Jim was the eldest of five sons of Gertrude and Vincent Carney. He grew up in Connecticut, Maine, and New York. After completing his service as a radio technician in the United States Air Force, he worked for Pathe Color in NYC and Van's Photo Service in Lansing, MI before embarking on a long career as an executive with DEK Identification Systems of Fort Wayne, IN and its successor companies. His job allowed him to travel the US and the world, with extended stays in AZ, TX, HI, CA, Mexico, Venezuela, and mainland China. In retirement, he lived in Texas and Florida, and partnered in VeneTex, an import/export business between Venezuela and the US. Jim loved travel, dancing, dogs and cats, beautiful cars, motorcycles, and boats.
Jim loved his family and will be missed by his daughters Libby Collinge (Bryon), Linda Toler (Ron), Kellie Senatore, and Regina Carney (Kyle), by his grandchildren Amanda Collinge Beck (Bryan), Tyler Collinge (Katy), Daniel Carney-Hubbard, and Giovanna Senatore, and by his great grandchildren Evie and Jake Beck.
Preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers Peter, Vincent, and Thomas, he is survived by his youngest brother Michael and many nieces and nephews.
We will all miss his tales of adventure. From him, we learned to throw our arms up on roller coasters, to always pause to enjoy fireworks or a little league game, and that there are few days that cannot be vastly improved by a milkshake or a ride in a convertible. In his memory, we ask that you go out and have some fun!
A celebration of life will be held later this year.
